(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congressmen Doug LaMalfa (R – Calif.) and Mike Thompson (D – Calif.) responded to the exclusion of their bill, H.R. 7305, from the FY2023 omnibus funding package. Due to an impasse in the United States Senate, all tax provisions – including H.R. 7305 – and disaster relief provisions were excluded from the government funding package.

(Washington, D.C.) – This week, legislation crafted by Representative Doug LaMalfa (R – Richvale) to prevent the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) from taking back disaster assistance funds that it considers duplicative with legal settlement claims will be signed into law. H.R. 539, the Preventing Disaster Revictimization Act, was a joint effort between Representative LaMalfa and Transportation and Infrastructure Committee lead Republican Sam Graves (R-MO), who sponsored the bill. Despite the work of Congressmen LaMalfa and Graves to get the legislation unanimously passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives in June 2021, the Senate had not passed the bill until it was included in the National Defense Authorization Act last week.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R - Richvale) voted in favor of the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The FY23 NDAA authorizes $858 billion for national defense spending, an increase of $45 billion over President Biden’s request to Congress. The bill overturns Biden’s proposed cuts to arms procurement, missile defense, and military construction. This bill now awaits final passage in the Senate before it will be sent to the President’s desk for signature.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Colonel Clarence (Bud) E. Anderson of Auburn, California, received an honorary promotion to the grade of Brigadier General in the United States Air Force. General Anderson was decorated 25 times during his 30-year military service including two Legions of Merit, Bronze Star, five Distinguished Flying Crosses, the French Legion of Honor and the French Croix de Guerre and is WWII ‘Triple ACE’ fighter pilot. General Anderson flew 116 combat missions with the 357th Fighter Group when he destroyed more than 16 enemy aircrafts in aerial combat over Europe. He also served in combat in the Vietnam War, where he commanded the 355th Tactical Fighter Wing. General Anderson is well regarded as a test pilot, member of the National Aviation Hall of Fame, and recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal for American Fighter ACE’s. Despite retiring from the Air Force in 1972, General Anderson has remained devoted to aviation, has become a published author, and is a sought-out guest speaker.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congressmen Doug LaMalfa (R – Calif.) and Cliff Bentz (R – Ore.) released the following statement in response to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) Order on the conditional approval of the license transfer from PacifiCorp and surrender of the four Lower Klamath Hydroelectric Project dams. The Order outlines the specific conditions for surrender of the license and decommissioning of the Project.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R – Richvale) observed the fourth anniversary of the 2018 Camp Fire and the tragic loss of the 86 victims who lost their lives. The Camp Fire was the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California's history, and is the deadliest wildfire in the United States since the Cloquet fire in 1918. The Camp Fire burned 153,336 acres in Butte County, destroyed 18,804 structures, and caused 52,000 people to evacuate.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R – Richvale) announced a $4,733,821.57 FEMA Public Assistance (PA) grant to Plumas Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative. This grant will be used to repair or replace distribution lines, fiber optic lines, and transformers damaged in wildfires, as well as cover hazardous tree removals required to complete the repairs. FEMA funding will cover 90% of the project’s total costs. All work is ongoing and is anticipated to be completed by February 24, 2023.

(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (CA-01) led the California Republican Congressional delegation in sending a letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom regarding the recent decision by the California Air Resource Board (CARB) to advance their August 2022 mandate that requires 100% of new car sales to be zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) by 2035. The lawmakers ask the Governor and CARB Chair Liane Randolph to consider alternate policies to reduce emissions that do not add additional strain to the state’s energy grid or restrictions on consumer choice.

(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (CA-01) led a letter to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg expressing concerns over the City of Oakland’s grant application to redevelop the Howard Terminal at the Port of Oakland into a commercial site for the new Oakland Athletics stadium. The letter points out logistical issues of taking away a portion of the Port and attempting to create a commercial site that borders a working port, and asks for answers regarding the project’s impact on port operations, safety, and shipping capacity. Representatives Bob Gibbs (OH-07), David Valadao (CA-21), Connie Conway (CA-22), Darrell Issa (CA-50), Troy Balderson (OH-12), Barry Moore (AL-02), Tom McClintock (CA-04), Young Kim (CA-39), Ken Calvert (CA-42), and Pete Stauber (MN-08) cosigned the letter.
