(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R – Richvale) spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to discuss the recent uptick in environmental crimes associated with illegal marijuana cultivation in Northern California. This comes as reports of California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) officers, Trinity County Sheriff’s Office, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, California National Guard, State Water Resources Control Board and CDFW environmental scientists collaborated in an investigation and discovered more than 150 environmental violations related to illegal grows. Many of these violations were directly impacting U.S. National Forests and included illegal water diversions, large scale illegal grading, sediment discharge to streams, water pollution of petroleum products and trash, and the use of outlawed rodenticides and pesticides.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Ranking Member Doug LaMalfa (R – Richvale) led the House Agriculture Subcommittee of Conservation and Forestry in a hearing titled, “A 2022 Review of the Farm Bill: Forestry”. This hearing comes at the beginning of the heart of the 2022 fire season, with already over five million acres burned across the country with nearly 80 large fires currently burning.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, the House passed H.R. 228 to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 2141 Ferry Street in Anderson, California, as the "Norma Comnick Post Office Building." Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R – Richvale) introduced this bill at the beginning of this congressional term, and it received unanimous backing by the entire California Congressional delegation.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced it would be sending notices to individuals in Plumas, Lassen, Tehama, Shasta, and Butte counties, and who registered for federal disaster assistance for losses incurred by the Dixie Fire, to inform them that claims made to the PG&E settlement for the Dixie Fire could be considered duplication of benefits.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congressman Doug LaMalfa (CA-01) and Congressman Mike Thompson (CA-05) received a response letter to their January 21, 2022 inquiry and June 8, 2022 follow-up asking the IRS to issue guidance on the taxability of settlement funds received from the Fire Victim Trust (FVT). The original letter was an effort to push the IRS to clarify and expedite public tax guidance on whether payments made to victims would be taxable under federal law. In their January 21, 2022 letter, Congressmen LaMalfa and Thompson were joined by California Senators Dianne Feinstein and Alex Padilla, and Reps. Tom McClintock (CA-04), John Garamendi (CA-03), and Jared Huffman (CA-02).

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R – Richvale) and Republican members of the California Congressional Delegation renewed their call to Governor Gavin Newsom to suspend the state’s 51 cent gas tax, which is currently scheduled to increase by 3 cents on July 1. Their official request to the Governor also urged support for a repeal of the state’s indexing of the gas tax to inflation considering inflation rates are continuing to rise at the highest rate in 40 years.
