(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced $1,008,694.28 in grant funding to be awarded to the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) for repair of roads damaged as a result of the Oroville Dam spillway incident in February of 2017.

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) and Congressman Collin Peterson (D-MN) issued the following statement after introducing H.R. 2381, the Modern, Clean, and Safe Trucks Act of 2019. This bill repeals the federal excise tax (FET) on heavy trucks that was created in 1917 to help pay for World War I. When it was introduced, the FET was 3%, but has increased to 12% today. The revenue generated through the FET tax goes into the Highway Trust Fund but is unreliable since truck sales are inconsistent year-to-year.

Res. 46, which would override the President’s veto of a resolution to overturn the President’s declaration of a national emergency at the southern border. A two-thirds majority vote in Congress is required to override a Presidential veto. The measure failed by a margin of 248-181. Congressman LaMalfa voted in opposition to overriding the President’s veto.
