Water Resources Development Act Passes Committee

May 23, 2018
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee passed H.R. 8, the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2018. The legislation was agreed to unanimously in committee and will head to the House floor for final consideration in the coming weeks.
LaMalfa said: "When I first got to Congress, a WRDA bill hadn't passed in 6 years. Since then, Chairman Shuster has led a renaissance in the committee, putting us back on the two year cycle. I'm pleased that process has continued as the bill passed through committee today – and in a unanimously bipartisan fashion. If passed, this legislation will institute a review process of the Army Corps of Engineers' backlog that could save taxpayers an estimated $3 billion, implement a study to improve Army Corps' administration and procedures, and greatly increase the role of local shareholders in carrying out water development projects. While there is still much that needs to be done, I am pleased with the steps taken today, and look forward to a vote on final passage on the House floor."
Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
