USDA Awards Rural Development Grant to Shasta Community Services District

February 7, 2019
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development awarded a $788,000 grant to the Shasta Community Services District under the Emergency Community Water Assistance Grant program. These funds are a direct result of damage incurred by the Carr Fire last summer.
LaMalfa said: "Last year's Carr Fire was absolutely devastating to the infrastructure of Shasta County – burning 229,651 acres and destroying more than 1,600 structures. This grant from USDA Rural Development is very important to the recovery process, which will be ongoing for some time. I thank State Director Kim Vann for her attention to Northern California's recovery needs. I'll continue working with Congress and the Administration to ensure NorCal rebounds from a historically destructive and deadly wildfire season as quickly and as fully as possible."
Kim Vann, State Director for USDA Rural Development, said: "The communities of Shasta and Keswick were devastated by last summer's Carr Fire, and an essential first step in their recovery is ensuring safe, reliable infrastructure for everyone," said Vann. "As they begin the rebuilding process Rural Development is proud to support their efforts to create new efficiencies through consolidation."
