Washington, DC – Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) voted in favor of legislation to stop and rollback proposed rules from the Internal Revenue Service. The bill, H.R. 3865, rolls back IRS rules that would jeopardize the nonprofit status of groups that engage in work like voter registration drives and candidate forums. The measure passed on a 243-176 vote and will now be considered by the Senate.

"Protecting citizens from discrimination based on their political beliefs is a fundamental duty of any representative government. This bill, which I was pleased to support, brings us back to a fair standard for every organization and every political creed," said LaMalfa. "I hope to see swift action from the Senate so Congress can help restore the faith of the American people in our government, by preventing unelected bureaucrats from targeting organizations based on who they might vote for."

Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District including, Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
