Washington, DC – Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) today voted in favor of H.R. 3811, the Health Exchange and Security Transparency Act, a measure that would require the Department of Health and Human Services to notify individuals within two business days of any breach on the health insurance exchanges that leaves individuals' personal health data at risk. "Today, I joined my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to demand accountability from the Administration for security failures on the health care exchanges. Over the past few months, it has been made increasingly clear that the President's health care law was never ready for prime time. In fact, just last month, we learned that healthcare.gov was launched before final security testing was completed, leaving the sensitive, personal information of millions of Americans at risk," said LaMalfa. "This commonsense measure ensures consumers receive full transparency when it comes to their personal identity and finances. Keeping American's information safe and secure should not be a partisan issue. It is time the Senate and this administration takes a stand and do what is right to protect the American people from the devastating effects of this law." H.R. 3811 passed by a vote of 291-122. Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District including, Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties. |
