Rep. LaMalfa Bill to Utilize Grazing in Wildfire Prevention Passes Through Committee

February 12, 2025

Washington, D.C.—Today, the House Natural Resources Committee passed Congressman LaMalfa’s bill, H.R. 1110, the Grazing for Wildfire Risk Reduction Act, out of markup. This legislation requires the Secretary of Agriculture to develop and implement a strategy to increase opportunities to utilize livestock grazing as a means of wildfire reduction.

“By utilizing grazing as a tool for wildfire risk reduction, we can make our forests healthier and more resilient. This bill will provide a strategic, no-nonsense approach to addressing the threat of wildfires while supporting local ranchers and improving forest management. I am happy to see this legislation move through the Natural Resources Committee with unanimous support,” said Rep. LaMalfa (R-Richvale).

“Congressman LaMalfa’s bipartisan legislation is a commonsense solution that will help our nation’s ranchers while reducing the threat of catastrophic wildfire. I was proud to include this legislation in the Fix Our Forests Act and move it through the Natural Resources Committee today,” said House Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-AR).

Congressman Doug LaMalfa is Chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus and a lifelong farmer representing California’s First Congressional District, including Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama and Yuba Counties.
