LaMalfa Votes to Repeal Anti-Israel UN Resolution

January 5, 2017

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after voting in favor of H.Res. 11, Objecting to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 as an obstacle to Israeli-Palestinian peace.

LaMalfa said: "President Obama's decision not to veto this anti-Israel UN resolution is a slap in the face to one of our strongest allies. Secretary of State John Kerry even doubled-down by defending the decision publicly. This latest slight only highlights the foreign policy ineptitude that Americans have seen from this Administration for the last eight years. We must send a clear message to the world that the United States stands with our ally, Israel, and we will continue working to secure peace between Israel and Palestine."

On December 23, 2016, United Nations Resolution 2334 was passed by a margin of 14-0. The resolution condemns one of America's strongest allies, Israel, and undermines the peace process for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As a member of the UN Security Council, the United States had the ability to veto the anti-Israel resolution, however the Administration chose to abstain from voting, allowing it to pass.

H.Res. 11 calls for UN resolution 2334 to be repealed or altered so that it is no longer anti-Israel, reaffirms America's longstanding commitment to negotiating sustainable peace between Israel and Palestine, and states that the U.S, should oppose any future anti-Israel resolutions or efforts.
