LaMalfa Votes for Flexibility for Working Families
May 16, 2013
Washington, DC – Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) voted in favor of the Working Families Flexibility Act, H.R. 1406 which passed the U.S. House of Representatives. H.R. 1406 allows private sector workers the option of accumulating compensatory time, or "comp time," rather than receiving overtime cash wages. "For almost 30 years, federal and state public sector workers have been able to choose between overtime pay and additional paid time off. Unfortunately, private sector employees do not have that option," LaMalfa said. "As a parent, I know how difficult it is to balance work and family responsibilities. This bill simply allows workers in the private sector to voluntarily choose between additional paid time off and overtime cash wages, whichever best suits their needs.""Not only will this measure give working families the flexibility they need, it also contains important protections for employees. Comp time laws have long been successful in the public sector, and I am proud that this Congress has voted to give private sector employees the same opportunity."Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
