LaMalfa Votes Against Socialist Spending Spree

September 10, 2021

(Washington, D.C.) Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after House Democrats passed S. Con. Res. 14, a budget resolution for Fiscal Year 2022. This resolution opens up the reconciliation process, which will allow for Democrats to pass a $3.5 trillion spending increase without any input from Republicans.

"Earlier today, we saw House Democrats cave to the socialist wing of their party," LaMalfa said. "This resolution creates a budget shell for Democrats to freely spend trillions without having to win a single Republican vote. By continuing down this path, Democrats put the U.S. at risk of a government shutdown in just a few weeks and defaulting on our national debt shortly thereafter. This majority is more focused on appeasing the extreme wing of their party than finding a middle ground that would work for everyday Americans. Today we saw so called moderates side with "the squad" to set in motion a plan that will increase taxes, cripple the economy, and expand government control."

Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
