LaMalfa Supports FISA Reauthorization
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 6172, which would reauthorize the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) through 2023.
LaMalfa said: “In recent years, the FISA process has been abused by a handful of individuals who dislike the President, but a politically motivated abuse of power should not jeopardize some of the most effective intelligence tools that are in place to keep Americans safe. These reforms to FISA are an improvement on privacy concerns, but Congress has more work to do to protect the Constitutional rights of Americans. Under this current House majority, I’ll take the improvements we were able to make today. My expectation is that Congress will be able to make more privacy upgrades before it expires in 2023. Allowing it to expire now would not have been a responsible way to protect our national security.”
