LaMalfa Statement on Farm Bill

May 18, 2018
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the House failed to pass H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act, known as the Farm Bill.
LaMalfa said: "Today's failure to pass a Farm Bill is a slap in the face to farmers and agriculture workers around the country. After three years of bipartisan negotiations and listening sessions, not a single one of my democratic colleagues supported this measure on the House floor. That speaks volumes. Those who opposed this legislation are telling farmers that they aren't willing to provide help as we weather a 52 percent drop in net farm income, combined with high and rising foreign subsidies. They aren't willing to support the meaningful forestry reforms that would help curtail the spread of wildfires, even after last year's historic destruction. They aren't willing to support the strong incentives included to expand broadband to remote, rural areas, many of which are located in the North State. I'm disappointed that this important legislation failed today, and I will continue to work with my fellow members of the Agriculture Committee and House Leadership to pass this responsible, and much-needed Farm Bill as quickly as possible."
Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
