LaMalfa Statement on Biden’s Plan to Ban Offshore Oil Development
Washington, D.C.—Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) released the following statement in response to President Biden’s executive order permanently banning new offshore oil and gas development in portions of U.S. coastal waters:
“President Biden’s eleventh-hour ban on offshore energy development is a reckless move that puts America’s energy future at risk. This political stunt will cost thousands of hardworking Americans their jobs, drive up energy costs for families, farmers, and industries already struggling with inflation, and make us more reliant on foreign countries for the resources we need.
By weaponizing laws to block responsible domestic energy production, this administration is prioritizing radical activist demands over American workers, national security, and economic stability. Shutting down critical energy projects in the last few days of their administration is simply spiteful to the American people and an attempt to hamstring the next administration. In a few short weeks we will be working with a new administration to overhaul these policies so that we can strengthen our energy independence, lower costs for families, and create good-paying jobs here at home.”
