LaMalfa Sides with President Trump on NDAA Veto

February 11, 2021

(Washington, DC) — Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) announced that he voted to sustain the President's veto of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The annual bill is partially responsible for setting defense policy for the year. Many of the items in the NDAA were already included in the annual appropriations bill that was signed into law yesterday. Regardless whether this bill would have failed, military personnel will see a 3% pay raise and needed investments in new planes, ships and weapons systems will continue because Congress has provided specific funding for those items. The House, however, voted to override the President's veto by a vote of 322-87.

LaMalfa said: "President Trump is correct that this bill is lacking needed reforms, does little to tackle the rising threat of China and places unfounded restrictions on any Commander in Chief's ability to relocate military personnel. From the beginning, this NDAA has been excessively partisan. While the Senate was able to remove many of the objectionable policies, the final bill still did nothing to address needed Section 230 reforms and it continues to leave an open door to China. There are easy fixes to this bill. I voted to uphold the President's veto so that we in Congress can work to make needed adjustments and pass an improved version in early January."
