Washington, DC – Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) today spoke on the House floor about the real-world impacts of the President's health care takeover on residents of California's First Congressional District. LaMalfa shared these stories after receiving letters from constituents who are being forced off of their current health care plans.

"I've heard directly from hundreds of constituents who have had their families' plans canceled. Already, 1.1 million Californians have lost their coverage due to Obamacare. A 2010 report by President Obama's Department of Health and Human Services found that between 41 and 52 million Americans would lose their coverage, and these aren't nameless, faceless numbers. Here in the North State, real people are losing health care plans that they like, plans that the President told them they could keep, and being forced onto more expensive plans with worse coverage and less access.

"Bill, of Fort Jones, writes that his existing $480 a month plan has been cancelled, that his only option is $919 a month, and that with two daughters in college and one more at home, he's doesn't know where he's supposed to come up with that kind of money.

"Janice, of Redding, is 62 and has two and a half years before she's eligible for Medicare. She's been told that her policy will be cancelled, and her monthly costs will jump from $318 a month to over $500 a month.

"Rhio, from Chico, learned that his $236 a month health coverage is not allowed under the President's plan, and his least-expensive option is $436 a month for worse coverage and a deductible that skyrockets to $4,500.

"A self-employed family from Tulelake wrote me that their $800 a month family plan is no longer allowed and that they're only option costs over $1,000 per person. What's more, they'll no longer be able to visit their family doctor in Oregon; now they'll need to drive several hours to Redding for routine visits. Where can they go in an emergency?

"These Californians are not alone. Millions of Americans around the nation a paying the price for the President's broken promises. We cannot stand idly by; the House has passed a measure letting Americans keep the plans they like, and it's time the Senate joins us to work on a permanent solution to protect the American people."
