LaMalfa: The Right to Vote is Exclusive to United States Citizens
(Washington, DC)—Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 8281, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act.
LaMalfa said: “The right to vote was intended to be reserved exclusively for United States citizens. Allowing non-citizens that right would be nothing short of an affront on the very principles established by the Constitution, devaluing the vote of actual American citizens. Blue states have long been toeing the line on illegal voter registration, and I am pleased to see the House take action in securing our elections at the Federal level.”
H.R. 8281 asserts that voting in Federal elections requires the following:
Proof of citizenship to register to vote for Federal elections.
The removal of voters from State databases if the State is provided with information that a registered voter is not a citizen of the United States.
Expansion of private right of action against election officials to include claims that said official registered applicants without proof of citizenship.
Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California’s First Congressional District, including Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama and Yuba Counties.
