LaMalfa Rejects Democrat Do-or Default Legislation

(Washington, D.C.) Earlier tonight, Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after voting against a proposal from House Democrats that would have allowed unlimited additional debt through December 2022, in exchange for preventing a government shutdown next week and authorizing assistance to recent disaster victims.

"Over the past few years, I have frequently supported disaster packages and emergency spending when it was needed," LaMalfa said. "I will not support a Democrat-manufactured crisis which puts the full faith and credit of the United States at risk to shield vulnerable Democrats from having to vote in favor of unlimited spending. The last nine months has made it abundantly clear that the majority party wants unlimited spending authority so they can increase spending by many trillions of dollars on completely partisan priorities. If Democrats want to get serious about coming to the table to limit the growth of spending, paying down our national debt and returning freedom to our citizens, then we can negotiate."

Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
