LaMalfa Joins Republicans in Urging Biden to Repeal Regulatory Assault on Agriculture
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R – Calif.) participated in a press conference with House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Glenn Thompson (R – Pa.). Earlier this week, they sent a letter to President Biden, urging his administration to reverse his policies limiting American agriculture producers' ability to meet the global food demand. Congressman LaMalfa discussed the Biden Administration's reversal of the 2020 Navigable Waters Protection Rule, which restarted the rulemaking process around the definition of what is navigable water, such as puddles and tire marks, leaving uncertainty for farmers on what they can be fined for and if they will need to receive permission from the Federal government before planting their crops.
A video recording of the press conference can be found here.
"Congress did not give the EPA jurisdiction over every puddle in America, but that is what they are trying to claim. If President Biden were serious about helping farmers grow food to supply Americans and the world during this global food shortage, he would return to the Navigable Waters Protection Rule to give farmers certainty," said Congressman LaMalfa. "Instead, his EPA is moving forward with their bureaucratic overreach so they can harass farmers for plowing fields that they historically grew crops on, claiming that tilled soil would be a "discharge pollutant". What farmer can survive this level of insanity?"
Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
