LaMalfa: DOT Awards $10 Million Grant to Repair Interstate 5
Sep 6, 2019
(Richvale, CA) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Highway Administration awarded $10,221,800 to the California Department of Transportation for repairs of Interstate 5, which was damaged as a result of the Delta Fire in Shasta County.
In September 2018, the Delta fire began burning in Shasta County and consumed more than 65,000 acres – destroying 20 structures, causing evacuations, threatening critical infrastructure, and damaged roadways and major freeways, including Interstate 5.
LaMalfa said: “The Delta Fire caused severe damage to infrastructure in Shasta County last year, most notably when it crossed Interstate 5 and forced the highway to temporarily close. This fire played a role in making 2018 an especially devastating year for wildfires in Northern California, and every ounce of federal support is welcomed. I thank DOT Secretary Elaine Chao and the Administration for their attention to California’s recovery needs and for making the investment in revitalizing critical infrastructure like I-5.”
