LaMalfa Demands Answers on Big Tech Censorship
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R – Richvale) and 19 Members of Congress sent a letter to Twitter's Chief Executive Officer, Parag Agrawal, regarding their concerns with news censorship and subsequent meddling in the 2020 presidential election. On October 14, 2020, the New York Post broke a story about a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden, the son of then-candidate Joe Biden. The laptop reportedly contained damning emails from Hunter Biden, showing how he exploited his connections to his then-Vice President father to further his own career interests, leveraged his connections for massive paychecks from foreign entities, and indicated that a portion of those foreign funds would pay "The Big Guy". Twitter then suspended the New York Post's account for more than two weeks and blocked users from sharing the article because of what it called concerns about the "origins of the material." The material has been verified and there is an ongoing criminal investigation of Hunter Biden because of the material disclosed in his discarded computer files.
"When big tech and the media coordinate to remove the ability for the people to freely share content that is both accurate and timely, it can have a huge effect on public policy and elections. The behavior of Twitter in the fall of 2020 raises huge concerns about stifling breaking, accurate news because it was unhelpful to a candidate they preferred. Who at the company made the decision to censor the story? Were they directly or indirectly involved with the Biden campaign? Why does Twitter think it's their business to censor the news, and was this censorship done with the purpose to sway the outcome of our elections? I take free speech and the integrity of our election process very seriously.
Twitter and other liberal propaganda conglomerates wrote the story off as a conspiracy, censoring the truth. We now have proof behind the story, but it's still being largely shielded in the media. Big media and big tech deliberately covered up this story and mislead the public. Congress and the people deserve answers on how this factual story that potentially directly involves the President was hidden from the public," said Congressman LaMalfa.
Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
