LaMalfa Comments on President’s Latest Obamacare Delay

January 17, 2014

For Immediate Release

December 20, 2013

Washington, DC – Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) today commented on the Obama administration's announcement that it would exempt yet another group of Americans from the requirement to purchase health insurance, the most recent admission that the President's health care take over isn't working. In the 14th delay or exemption the President has announced this year, his administration would exempt Americans who have had their health insurance plans canceled as a result of the President's law.

"I'm glad that the President is finally recognizing that Obamacare is a hardship for millions of Americans. Every additional American that is exempted is a positive step, but the focus of his efforts should have been on the uninsured and those with pre-existing conditions, not the majority of Americans who were pleased with their existing health care.

"It's time for the President to admit that his health care take over is so dysfunctional that everyone should be exempted, not just whichever group he happens to have noticed on a given day. It would be better if he simply kept his promise that if you liked your plan, you could keep it, a promise that has been broken for the millions of Americans who have lost their health coverage as a direct result of the President's actions. Choose any part of his plan – the broken website, the millions who lost coverage, the skyrocketing costs – and it's more clear every day that it is broken beyond repair.

"Unfortunately the President balked when Republicans called for a delay of his disastrous health care takeover, calling a delay "ransom", yet he's attempted to do just that for unions and other favored groups. However, as the President has said time and time again, Obamacare is the law of the land; the consequences of that fact are that it must be changed by Congress through the legislative process, not by executive fiat. This is just a continuation of the President's pattern of trying to slip bad news out on a Friday, much as was done at Thanksgiving."
