LaMalfa Attends March for Life, Supports Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act

January 19, 2018

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 4712, the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act. The bill requires health care practitioners who are present when a child is born alive following an attempted abortion to exercise the same degree of care as reasonably provided to any other child born alive at the same gestational age, and to ensure that the child is immediately admitted to a hospital. Congressman LaMalfa, a cosponsor of the bill, also attended Friday's March for Life in Washington, D.C.

LaMalfa said: "The fact that any of my colleagues would even debate against the merits of this bill is troubling. It is beyond justification that a living, breathing baby who somehow survives the brutality of a failed abortion would not be afforded the same care as any other child. Does the fact that a child has survived an abortion make them any less alive? The clear answer is no, killing a newborn child is infanticide. If a doctor kills a born baby, it is murder – period. If a nurse sees a baby survive the gauntlet of abortion, that assistant shouldn't have to sneak the baby away at risk of reprimand – they should instead be praised for saving a life. Innocent human life is precious. That's why I fully supported this legislation, and that's why I marched for life today."
