LaMalfa Announces Wildfire Grant Funding for Shasta County

May 29, 2019
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) awarded $880,000 to Superior California Economic Development of Redding, CA in Shasta County. The funding will be matched with $220,000 in local funds and is intended to help businesses become more resilient to natural disasters, such as wildfires.
The Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) applies to Shasta, Trinity, Modoc, and Siskiyou Counties for the expansion of operations to meet increased recovery needs. EDA estimates 35 new jobs will be created and 35 existing jobs will be saved while leveraging $1 million in private investment.
LaMalfa said: "Natural disasters can be very costly for small businesses in rural areas, such as the impact felt by the Carr Fire on Shasta County last year. This funding will give businesses access to affordable loans to help expand operations and improve preparation and recovery efforts. I thank the Administration for their continued support as we rebuild from an expensive and deadly wildfire season in Northern California."
Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
