LaMalfa Announces Federal Funding for Wildfire Recovery in Shasta County

September 21, 2018
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) approved a Disaster Recovery National Dislocated Worker Grant for the California Department of Employment Development for up to $6,000,000, with $2,000,000 awarded initially. This funding will provide for the immediate creation of disaster relief employment of approximately 260 individuals to assist with the cleanup and recovery efforts resulting from wildfires in Shasta County.
LaMalfa said: "This wildfire season has already taken a severe toll on Northern California – particularly the Carr Fire, which destroyed more than 1,000 homes in Shasta County and quickly became one of the most devastating fires in our area's history. Some people have lost everything, and the road to recovery will be long and difficult. This funding will create 260 disaster relief jobs and help those impacted by recent wildfires get back on their feet. We've got a long way to go, but it's a good start towards cleaning up the damage that has been done to our communities."
Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
