LaMalfa Announces Federal Assistance for Combatting Jones Fire
(Nevada County, CA) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) authorized Fire Management Assistance Grants (FMAG) to assist the State of California in combating the Jones Fire burning in Nevada County. FMAGs provide federal funding for up to 75 percent of eligible firefighting costs, including expenses for field camps, equipment use, materials, supplies and mobilization, and demobilization activities.
LaMalfa said: "The Jones Fire has threatened homes, buildings, and electrical infrastructure in Nevada County. I'm grateful for FEMA's timely response to the state's request for help, and their continued support for minimizing the effects of wildfire in Northern California on our constituents and their property.
As of August 18th, 2020, the Jones Fire threatened approximately 350 residences west of Nevada City. The fire also threatened multiple historical and cultural sites, a school, county jail, and high-voltage transmission lines serving multiple areas along U.S. Highway 49.
