House Democrats Approve Another $10 billion for High Speed Rail over LaMalfa Objections

September 20, 2021

(Washington, D.C.) Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after Democrats on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee rejected his amendment to cut $10 billion of funding for high-speed rail programs, such as the California High Speed Rail Project.

Rep. LaMalfasaid, "The first rule of holes: when you find yourself in one, first, STOP DIGGING! Yet, here we are again with Congressional Democrats pushing $10 billion of our taxpayer dollars for a boondoggle of epic proportions. California's High-Cost Rail system has been a failure by every measure, constantly way over budget and way over time. It's time to cut our losses and spend our limited infrastructure dollars on real solutions that real Americans truly need, better highways and increased water storage. The fact that my Democrat colleagues are still so hellbent on wasting even more billions on a pet project that few will ride, and will never operate without continual taxpayer support, is beyond me."

Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
