Congressman LaMalfa Announces Nominees to the United States Service Academies
Students to compete nationwide for Service Academy Appointments
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) announced that he has nominated nine district residents as candidates to the United States Service Academies. The U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marines Academy each require a Congressional nomination in order to attend. The admissions process is highly competitive as vacancies are limited each year.
“Attending one of our nation's U.S. Service Academies is a rare opportunity to earn an excellent education while being prepared to be great leaders in serving our country. It takes students of the highest caliber to receive a nomination, and I believe that these nine remarkable Nor Cal students have the qualities necessary to attend and succeed there. I wish them the best in reaching their goals and highest abilities. I also want to thank our review committee for their considerate and unbiased interviews of the prospective candidates,” said Congressman LaMalfa.
Congressman LaMalfa’s nominees were recommended by a committee of North State community leaders and veterans from various branches of the military. The committee recommended a slate of nominees after interviewing and carefully considering the academic and leadership backgrounds of each student who applied for the nomination. Having been nominated, the students must now compete with other nominees for an appointment to the academies.
Academy officials will begin announcing appointments in January.
