Congressman LaMalfa Announces Nominees to United States Service Academies

December 29, 2022

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) announced his nomination of 13 Northern California residents as candidates to the United States Service Academies. The U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marines Academy each require a Congressional nomination in order to attend. The admissions process is highly competitive.

"I am pleased to these announce these young people as nominees from Nor Cal for such prestigious appointments,"said Rep. LaMalfa. "Attending one of our nation's Service Academies is an amazing honor and achievement, and doing so presents an opportunity to earn a first-class education while also preparing for leadership roles in the Armed Forces. Each nomination was well deserved, as it takes students of the toughest mettle, highest caliber, and impeccable moral character to receive one. I'd also like to give thanks to our review committee for their professionalism and unbiased interviews of the prospective candidates. I wish every candidate all the best in their future endeavors and service to our nation."

Congressman LaMalfa's nominees were recommended by a committee of Northern California community leaders and veterans from various branches of the military. The committee recommended a slate of nominees after interviewing and carefully considering the academic and leadership backgrounds of each student who applied for the nomination. Having been nominated, the students must now compete with other nominees for an appointment to the academies. Academy officials will begin announcing appointments in January.
