LaMalfa Reaction to State of the Union Address
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after President Donald Trump delivered his first official State of the Union Address to Congress.
LaMalfa said: "Tonight, the President's message to the nation was clear. While some have spent the last year attempting to convince the public that the sky is falling, the reality is that our future has never looked brighter. Jobs are rebounding across the country while a return to investing in America has created a newfound sense of optimism not seen in years. After watching American global influence wither away for eight years, we're finally rebuilding our military and re-establishing our presence abroad. Under the President's leadership, the foreign policy of ‘lead from behind' is over. After only a year in office, President Trump has signed into law the largest reform to our tax code in decades, slashed countless job-killing regulations, and improved national security by strengthening our borders. As the President has promised, America's infrastructure will be dramatically improved. That means new and improved roads, bridges, tunnels, waterways – even expanded access to broadband internet for rural areas like Northern California. President Trump challenged Congress tonight to help him get it done, and that is a challenge I wholeheartedly accept."

In attendance as one of the President's special guests was North State resident Preston Sharp from Redding, CA. Preston has gained national attention for placing flags on the graves of over 40,000 veterans, with a goal of doing so in all 50 states. Preston's older brother, Steffen, also attended as the official guest of Congressman LaMalfa.
LaMalfa said: "The President and First Lady made a tremendous choice in selecting Preston as one of their special guests. Preston is a fine young man whose patriotism has brought entire communities together and honored countless veterans. He's a prime example of someone who noticed a problem and took matters into his own hands to do something about it. Northern California is lucky to call him one of our own."
Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
