House Passes Legislation Including LaMalfa Water Supply Provisions
Washington, DC – Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) today supported an amendment to include the entirety of the House’s California drought relief bill (HR 2898) in a Senate bill, forcing any conference committee to consider the bill. The amendment, which passed on a 241-178 vote, includes both short- and long-term reforms to protect and enhance North State water rights, fast-track Sites Reservoir, and improve water management during winter storms to retain as much water as possible.
“This measure contains the strongest possible protections for Northern California’s water rights, accelerates storage projects like Sites Reservoir, and ensures that more water is stored during winter storms, when flows are highest,” said LaMalfa. “Passing this today ensures that it is considered in a conference committee and that our Senators can no longer refuse to take action on a crisis that threatens our state’s economy.”
