Washington, DC – Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) today commented the Supreme Court's ruling that citizen defendants of Proposition 8, which defined legal marriage in California as between a man and a woman, had no legal standing and thus could not challenge a lower court's ruling overturning the law. This decision effectively overturns the proposition in California.

Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) today voted in favor of an amendment to the Veterans Affairs (VA) appropriations bill that shifts additional funding to VA offices with the longest case backlogs. Authored by Rep. Amodei (R-NV), the amendment passed with strong bipartisan support and direct $44 million in funds to the fifteen worst-performing VA offices.

This bipartisan legislation closes a loophole in statutes barring sex trafficking of a minor by removing a "knowledge of age" requirement.

Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) today successfully passed an amendment to the federal Farm Bill which requires electronic fraud prevention measures and eliminates bonus pay for signing up new recipients. Specifically, the amendment requires the use of existing electronic databases to determine whether applicants are prohibited from receiving food stamp benefits.
