Rep. LaMalfa Voices Concern with TPP Agreement
Washington, DC - Rep. LaMalfa today released the following statement after the Obama Administration announced they reached an agreement on the Trans-Pacific Partnership earlier this morning.
"When Trade Promotion Authority was passed earlier this year, Congress laid out over 150 specific trade items and requirements for negotiators to ensure we can get the very best deal possible for our small businesses, workers, farmers, and manufacturers. While the details of the Trans Pacific Partnership agreement are still emerging, I do have concerns regarding the lack of progress made for a number of US products, despite lawmakers and stakeholder's repeated calls for increased market access in these areas. Free trade agreements will only keep our country moving forward if they are able to grow our economy by creating new opportunities for Americans," continued LaMalfa. "As the details become available over the next few months, I look forward to carefully studying the agreement and I encourage the American people to do the same so we can ensure it meets the high standards required by Congress for approval."
Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
