LaMalfa Votes Against Resolution to Weaken the President in Iran

March 11, 2020

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after voting against S. J. Res. 68, which prohibits the President from taking actions to defend America and its allies in the region against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

LaMalfa said: "For the third time this year, Congress is attempting to degrade the ability of our President to act as Commander-in-Chief after disagreeing with his decision to kill General Qassem Soleimani, an international terrorist responsible for killing at least six hundred Americans. This dangerous proposal sends a weak and conflicting message to our enemies and regional allies. More than any time since 1979, Iran is a threat to American national security and global stability, and the President must have the ability to respond quickly and efficiently in order to protect our interests and allies."
