LaMalfa Votes Against $1.3 Trillion Funding Package

March 22, 2018

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after voting against the $1.3 trillion government funding measure. The House passed the bill by a margin of 256-167. The bill will now be sent to the Senate for consideration on Friday.

LaMalfa said: "There are some provisions of this funding measure that I support, but unfortunately, there are far more that I can't support. Last year, the House passed twelve appropriations bills that reflected the will of the American people, but the Senate never took action. Now, we're left with this flawed process that places too much power in the hands of a few Democratic Senators. Though this bill does plenty of good things – such as funding for Sites Reservoir, Secure Rural Schools, and forestry reform – it also increases the deficit at an alarming rate. It provides much needed funding that our military deserves, but it doesn't do enough to secure our borders or crackdown on dangerous sanctuary city policies. There are provisions I've fought to include in this bill that will greatly benefit the North State, including language I authored to cut down on wildfires caused by downed power lines. These are provisions I want to support, but at the end of the day, the level of spending is too high to justify."

Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
