LaMalfa Supports Music Modernization Act

April 26, 2018

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 5447, the Music Modernization Act. This bipartisan legislation makes important updates to our copyright laws to ensure American music creators are properly recognized and rewarded for their creative work.

LaMalfa said: "The cultural experiences provided by America's music industry often enhance and provide enjoyment in our daily lives. The industry also creates millions of jobs and contributes billions to the economy. Unfortunately, the creativity of songwriters and creators is often an afterthought due to our outdated copyright laws. The bipartisan Music Modernization Act updates America's licensing laws to finally reward the innovative artists who drive our music industry behind the scenes. This bill is long overdue, and I'm pleased that the House could come together to modernize our copyright laws in order to keep pace with rapidly evolving technologies. Songwriters play a major role in the music industry and should be properly recognized for it."
