LaMalfa Supports DHS Immigration Executive Action
Jun 21, 2018
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order issued by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to keep undocumented immigrant families together, but continue “zero-tolerance” policy towards prosecuting illegal immigrants apprehended at the border.”
LaMalfa said: “I support the President’s decision to address the situation at our border with the powers of the Executive only until Congress can enact a permanent fix. We cannot revert back to the previous administration’s ‘catch and release’ policies that allowed illegal immigrants to flood through our borders unchecked – the policies that caused these problems in the first place. President Trump and Secretary Nielsen are working hard to enforce the law and strengthen enforcement at our borders while providing the best options for the wellbeing of children. I hope my Democrat colleagues in the House and Senate will join our efforts to reach a long-term solution, instead of participating in hollow political posturing.”
