LaMalfa Announces Grants to Repair Infrastructure in Lassen National Forest Following Hog Fire
(Susanville, CA) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Transportation issued two grants, $600,000 for the Bureau of Land Management and $700,000 for the U.S. Forest Service, from the Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads program to repair or reconstruct Federal Lands Management Agencies transportation facilities that were damaged or destroyed during the Hog Fire in Lassen County.
LaMalfa said: "Well-maintained infrastructure on federal lands is critical for recreation and firefighting. Especially as California battles an extreme wildfire season, roads and highways on federal land allow first responders to more easily answer when duty calls. As a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Highway and Transit Subcommittee, I will continue working to make sure roads in our forests and federal lands are upgraded and maintained, providing easy access for first responders, creating rural recreation jobs on public lands, and providing better protection for our forests from wildfire destruction."
The Hog Fire burned 9,564 acres West of Susanville in Lassen County starting on July 18th, 2020. As of August 17th, 2020, the Hog Fire is 100% contained. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
