LaMalfa Announces Grant to Help Begin Process of Rebuilding Honey Run Covered Bridge

September 21, 2020

(Chico, CA) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa issued the following statement after the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) issued a $3,441,268.50 grant to Butte County for an alternate project and to facilitate the deed transfer of the Honey Run Covered Bridge, per Board of Supervisors approval, to the Honey Run Covered Bridge Association (HRCBA). This deed transfer will allow HRCBA to use private funds to rebuild the bridge following its destruction in the 2018 Camp Fire.

LaMalfa said: "Until it was destroyed in the Camp Fire, the Honey Run Covered Bridge was one of a handful of covered bridges of its kind in the United States. With this money from FEMA, Butte County will be able to fund an alternate project and facilitate a legal transfer of the deed to the site of the old Honey Run Bridge from County ownership to the HRCBA. This allows the Association to use private funds they collected to fund the reconstruction of the original bridge. Thank you to FEMA for these much-needed funds that will help facilitate a process to bring back this iconic Butte County landmark."
