(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 2266, the disaster supplemental appropriations package. This legislation sends $36.5 billion toward wildfire suppression and hurricane relief – with $576.5 million going towards fighting recent catastrophic wildfires in the western United States.

LaMalfa said: “The devastating wildfires that are wreaking havoc in Northern California and the Western U.S. are now being recognized as the disasters that they are. People have lost everything – in some cases their lives. Similar to the hurricane-impacted areas in Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico, quick recovery efforts will be critical to helping people get back on their feet and helping to get these economies moving again. Whether it’s a wildfire, a hurricane, or some other natural disaster, it is our responsibility to send help, and this funding will hopefully hasten a return to normalcy for those affected by these disasters.”

Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California’s First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
