House Passes Department of Defense Funding Measure
Sep 26, 2018
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 6157, the Department of Defense and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Act and Continuing Appropriations Act.
LaMalfa said: “The responsible use of the appropriations process by this Congress in recent months has produced tangible results – it has been 22 years since this many appropriations measures were passed on time. This legislation will provide much-needed stability for our military by fully funding the Department of Defense for the first time in more than a decade. It also provides resources to fight against the opioid epidemic, strengthen investments in medical research, and makes critical resources available to improve our schools and promote job readiness. While I’m cautious of the use of continuing resolutions as a stopgap tool, we need to keep the government running until these spending issues can be further addressed in December. This appropriations process is much closer to the regular order that was intended, and that is certainly a step in the right direction.”
