House Passes Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 3697, the Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act.
LaMalfa said: “Across America, many of our communities have been harmed by illegal alien gang members – that is a fact. Yet current immigration law prohibits ICE from effectively targeting those known to be associated with criminal gang activities and removing them from the country. This legislation changes that and gives ICE the tools they need to better help our communities by removing those that only wish to inflict harm. Their tactics of violence harm our society and intimidate free people.”
- Allows for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to remove illegal aliens based on their membership in dangerous gangs or participation in gang activities.
- Allows the Secretary of Homeland Security to designate organizations as criminal gangs.
- Ensures that criminal alien gang members cannot receive asylum.
