Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) voted for a measure last evening that rolls back the Environmental Protection Agency’s controversial “Waters of the United States” regulatory proposal.  HR 1732, which passed by a vote of 261-155, prevents the EPA from implementing the rule and directs it to work with stakeholders on a new rule.

Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) today released the following statement after U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry signed the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), which could lead to further restrictions being placed on the gun rights of American citizens. For example, the treaty could effectively create a gun registry by requiring firearms shipped across borders to be tracked to end users and for a period of ten years thereafter.

Washington, DC – Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) today commented the Supreme Court’s ruling that citizen defendants of Proposition 8, which defined legal marriage in California as between a man and a woman, had no legal standing and thus could not challenge a lower court’s ruling overturning the law. This decision effectively overturns the proposition in California. LaMalfa not only opposed the Court’s failure to defend traditional marriage, he also expressed deep concerns that the ruling seriously damaged California’s initiative process.

Washington, DC – Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) has announced the introduction of “The Child Protection Act of 2013” (HR1690, “Hazel’s Law”), which he is cosponsoring with Rep. Juan Vargas (D-CA). This bipartisan legislation closes a loophole in statutes barring sex trafficking of a minor by removing a “knowledge of age” requirement. While other criminal statutes involving exploitation of children do not have this requirement, sex traffickers have received shorter sentences after arguing that they did not know victims were underage.
