Rep. LaMalfa Votes to Provide Certainty, Flexibility for Small Businesses

February 18, 2015

Washington, DC – Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) today released the following statement regarding the House passage of H.R. 636, America's Small Business Tax Relief Act of 2015.

"Today, the House advanced a common sense solution that will provide much needed relief and certainty to small businesses and our nation's working families. The bill, which makes several pro-growth tax policies permanent, is extremely important to our local farmers and ranchers who need to update their equipment. Year after year, Congress has provided short term reauthorizations of this provision. It is time to make this effective policy permanent," continued LaMalfa. "Especially in today's economy, we should make sure small businesses can spend more time growing their business, rather than trying to keep up with ambiguous tax codes."

H.R. 636, which passed on a bipartisan vote of 272-142, makes the current expensing levels of up to $500,000 permanent in Section 179 of the tax code, allowing small businesses flexibility to invest in equipment and technology to grow their operations.

Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
