Rep. LaMalfa Applauds Funding to Expand Educational Opportunities for Rural Students

September 19, 2016

Washington, DC – Representative Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) today announced that Lassen Community College in Susanville, CA, has been awarded a $313,592 Distance Learning Grant from the United States Department of Agriculture Office of Rural Development.

“In a time of significant advances in technology, it’s critical that we ensure rural residents have the infrastructure and resources to keep up,” said LaMalfa. “This funding will go a long way to strengthen the work that Lassen Community College is doing to expand affordable higher education and increase workforce development opportunities throughout the community.”

Under the grant, Lassen Community College will establish video-conferencing connections between the College and six local high schools, including a teen center on the Susanville Indian Rancheria, intended to enhance academic experiences for students in rurally isolated areas.

Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California’s First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
