LaMalfa Introduces Bipartisan Resolution to Honor Blue Star Mothers
Washington, DC – Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) today joined with Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (AZ-09), Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15), and Rep. Martha Roby (AL-02) to introduce a resolution recognizing the month of August as the "Blue Star Mothers of America Month". This bipartisan resolution honors the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc., a non-partisan and non-political organization comprised of 11,000 members from 42 states.
"This resolution serves as a well-deserved recognition of appreciation for the massive contributions and sacrifice of the Blue Star Mothers, an organization that has been doing great work for our troops and veterans for the past 71 years," said LaMalfa. "At considerable personal expense, these women, in the spirit of patriotism, have provided the support and encouragement that our service members depend on as they serve to keep our country free and safe. I am proud to join colleagues from both sides of the aisle to honor these remarkable women and celebrate the contributions they have made to this great nation."
Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. was founded as a patriotic service organization in 1942, with the mission of uniting mothers with sons or daughters in the United States Armed Forces. Persons eligible for membership in the Blue Star Mothers of America include any woman who filled the role of birthmother, adoptive mother, step-mother, foster mother, grandmother, or legal Guardian of a service member who is currently serving, or has served in any branch of the United States Armed Forces.
During his time as a member of the California state Senate, LaMalfa authored legislation on behalf of the Blue Star Mothers of Nevada County renaming a local bridge as the "Gold Star Memorial Bridge" in honor of three fallen Marines who were residents of the area.
Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
