LaMalfa-Cosponsored Veterans Jobs Bill Passes House

January 7, 2015

Washington, DC – Rep. LaMalfa (R-CA) today issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 22, a measure he co-sponsored encouraging employers to hire more of our nation's veterans. The legislation ensures veterans who already receive health insurance through the Department of Veterans Affairs or TRICARE are exempt from being counted as part of the 50 full-time employee threshold to provide insurance as required under the employer mandate.

"This legislation, which simply exempts veterans from Obamacare's costly employer mandate, will allow more private sector employers the opportunity to hire more of our nation's qualified and well-trained heroes," said LaMalfa. "Our veterans should not have to return home to an economy not ready to support them, and our small businesses should not be saddled with the financial burden of duplicative, unnecessary healthcare costs. I was proud to once again support this legislation and I am very pleased that is it our first order of business in the 114th Congress."

Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District including, Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
