LaMalfa Applauds the President’s WOTUS Executive Order

February 28, 2017

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after President Donald Trump issued an Executive Order requiring the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Army Corps of Engineers to begin dismantling the Obama Administration's Waters of the United States (WOTUS) Rule.

LaMalfa said: "The Waters of the U.S. is one of the most unconstitutional and far-reaching rules implemented by any Administration ever. Today's Executive Order dismantles a rule which would give unelected bureaucrats control of nearly every body of water in the country. The WOTUS regulation would have devastating impacts on rural economies and property rights in Northern California. I have fought this rule from the beginning and I am glad to see the new Administration take action to prevent it from taking effect."

Congressman LaMalfa has repeatedly fought expansions of WOTUS during his time in Congress, sponsoring an amendment (H.Amdt. 209,114th Congress) signed into law defunding federal regulation of farming and ranching activities exempted from the Clean Water Act. He also cosponsored H.J.Res.59, rejecting the Obama administration's Waters of the United States regulation, and worked with the Chairmen of the Agriculture and Transportation & Infrastructure Committees to roll back the regulation.
