Rep. LaMalfa Urges Rapid Approval of Benghazi Select Committee

May 2, 2014

Washington, DC – Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) today commented on the release of new White House e-mails regarding the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi and the announcement by Speaker Boehner that the House would vote to establish a select committee to investigate this terror attack. LaMalfa has cosponsored H.Res. 36 to create the committee.

"It is appalling that nearly two years after terrorists attacked a U.S. Consulate, the American people still have so many unanswered questions about what went wrong in Benghazi," said LaMalfa. "On September 11, 2012, we lost four brave and innocent Americans, and instead of assisting and cooperating with our investigation into this tragic event, the Obama Administration continues to give Congress the run-around."

"Fortunately, an outside watchdog group was successfully able to uncover emails that were withheld from Congress, despite numerous subpoenas, and show the Obama Administration urging Susan Rice to provide false and misleading information to the American public. The extent of the cover-up is yet to be seen, but is clearly outrageous. I commend Speaker Boehner and the House Leadership for bringing legislation to the House floor that will create a select committee to investigate the Benghazi terrorist attack, and urge my colleagues to approve this measure."

Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District including, Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
