Rep. LaMalfa Statement on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Speech to Congress

March 3, 2015

Washington, DC – Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) today released the following statement regarding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to a joint meeting of Congress:

"Prime Minister Netanyahu's speech is a wake-up call to those who haven't yet accepted that Iran's determined pursuit of nuclear weapons is dangerous not just for Israel, but also for the United States. Our enduring friendship with Israel, one based upon mutual trust and respect, demands that we stand against those who threaten Israel's existence.

A nuclear-armed Iran would embolden a nation already known to support terrorist groups, create an arms race in the Middle East, and have repercussions across the globe. We know that Iran has concealed its nuclear efforts in the past, and there is no reason to believe that it is negotiating in good faith now. President Obama's proposed agreement would fail to degrade Iran's nuclear capabilities and places too much trust in a brutal regime. Any agreement must ensure that Iran's nuclear infrastructure is verifiably and permanently degraded, which a requirement this agreement does not meet."
